Nissan Pathfinder

The Nissan Pathfinder is a large 4x4, which is designed to cope with truly rugged road conditions.  It has just one engine and two trim options, with prices ranging from £26,895 to £29,895 on the road.

The 2.5litre dCi diesel engine manages 0 to 60mph in 11.7 seconds with a maximum speed of 109 mph.  Fuel consumption is quite high at 23.5mpg in urban conditions, 33.2mpg in non-urban conditions and 28.8mpg combined.  The engine comes with the option of six-speed manual or five speed automatic transmission.  Two features of the Nissan Pathfinder, designed to aid driving in difficult road conditions, are Hill Descent Control, which assists on steep hills and Hill Start Assist, which helps prevent the car rolling backwards when making hill starts.

The entry level trim is the Acenta, which includes front and rear electric windows, electric mirrors, power steering, climate control, multi CD player stereo, Bluetooth and alloy wheels.  Safety features include, front, side and curtain airbags, ESP and ABS.  The higher priced Tekna trim includes leather seats, cruise control, keyless entry and a sat nav system.

The Nissan Pathfinder seats seven passengers in comfort and has extremely spacious storage capabilities.  The treacherous driving conditions it is built to handle will rarely be encountered by the average driver in Britain, who is be more likely to use it for driving to the supermarket or collecting the kids from school.  Having said that, it makes an ideal car for a large family, especially one that intends taking lots of luggage on long journeys.
